Campsites With a Pub Within Walking Distance
The single most useful thing about a campsite is often not on its own website. We measured every site we list against its nearest pub: 718 have one within a mile, and 330 within half a mile.

Nobody books a campsite because of the pub. Everybody remembers whether there was one. It is the difference between an evening and a logistics problem, someone staying sober to drive, or a taxi booked from a village with one car.
It is also exactly the sort of thing a directory can answer and a brochure cannot, because it is a property of the map rather than the site. So we computed it: for every one of the sites we list, the distance to its nearest pub.

A mile is the honest threshold for "walking distance" in the dark, in boots, after a day out. Half a mile is the threshold for doing it in both directions without thinking about it.

The counties that do it best
Kent leads by a distance, with 111 sites inside a mile of a pub, a function of how densely villaged the county is, and how many of its campsites are on farms between them. Dorset, Northern Ireland, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight follow.
- Kent: the highest count of any county we list.
- Dorset: village pubs and coast within reach of each other.
- Northern Ireland: a genuinely strong showing given the province’s size.
- Hampshire: the New Forest, where pubs and campsites are equally dense.
- Isle of Wight: small island, a lot of villages.
The pattern is straightforward: lowland, densely villaged counties win. Upland areas, Cumbria, the Highlands, have the better walking and the longer distance to a bar.
The pub-and-walk combination
Where this really pays is on a walking trip, and the Peak District is the standout for it: close-set villages, short circular routes, and pubs that predate the walkers. We have broken that out separately in Peak District walks that end at a pub.
A handful of sites in the list above are attached to the pub itself, the field behind the beer garden, which is the oldest form of camping in Britain and still one of the best.
A caveat worth stating
We hold the location of the nearest pub, not its opening hours, its food service or whether it is currently trading. Rural pubs close, change hands and stop doing food midweek out of season. Ring ahead if the evening depends on it.
